Specializing in Sleep Wellness
“As a Family Medicine Physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, I bring over 35 years of experience in providing compassionate, integrative, and holistic care. My practice is grounded in the principles of Integrative and Functional Medicine, focusing on treating the whole person and the root causes of your illness, not just your symptoms.”
From early childhood to hormonal teens, busy adulthood, and retirement, Dr. Roger Washington has tailored his practice to guide you toward relief from suffering and a healthier, more vibrant life.
Restore your balance between stress and quality sleep more naturally with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based approaches that are used to help you break habitual patterns and cycles of behavior that feed illness and sabotage recovery.
Go beyond standard exams with a thorough assessment of your medical history, current physical health, lifestyle, and even psychological stressors. This approach respects your preferences, whether you lean toward medication or lifestyle and alternative therapies.
If you are feeling frustrated by a lack of answers or unsatisfactory treatment options, get a second opinion. Explore alternative diagnoses and therapeutic options that can offer you new hope for managing your health concerns effectively.
Receive a non-stigmatizing diagnosis that considers your unique way of functioning with both strengths and challenges. Treatment is given through medication, lifestyle adjustments, or alternative therapies suited to your individual needs and preferences.
When primary care is combined with integrative and functional healthcare approaches, the root cause of your illness is identified and addressed instead of merely treating the symptoms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps patients recognize and release unhealthy behavioral patterns to improve outcomes and self-confidence when dealing with health challenges, including insomnia. CBT focuses on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, making changes in lifestyle and habit patterns primary and supportive medications secondary.
Trauma-informed Care is central to helping patients recover from toxic stress, especially adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and reversing its impact on sleep quality. By understanding a patient’s trauma history, care becomes more empathetic and individualized, fostering trust and healing.
Sleep Wellness Care offers significant benefits for patients who have faced various medical issues.

Throughout his 35+ years of observation and research as a Primary Care Family Physician, Dr. Washington has proven that quality sleep is essential for health and healing. His treatment approaches center on integrating Sleep Wellness behaviors to ensure sufficient sleep.
In his book, Lack of Sleep Sufficient Matters: Decode the Root Cause of Your Illness, Dr. Washington has documented how lack of sufficient sleep (LOSS) can intensify pain, prolong illness, and negatively impact physical and mental well-being. His findings clearly show how insufficient sleep is the root cause of most illnesses and diseases.
His Sleep Wellness programs and therapies help patients achieve deep, restorative sleep, which facilitates recovery, reduces inflammation, and promotes a sense of vitality.
This 8 Domains of Wellness Poster from the Sleep To Live Well Foundation (STLW) builds on the groundbreaking work of the Center for Youth Wellness, led by its Founder and CEO, Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris, who sounded the alarm about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and brought the 7 Domains of Wellness care to healthcare providers treating children affected by trauma and toxic stress.
Adding Sleep Wellness as the 8th Domain of Wellness emphasizes how sufficient sleep is vital to the effectiveness of all other wellness interventions.
This poster is available through the STLW, which Dr. Washington established to provide Sleep Wellness educational materials and ACEs-mitigating resources to children, parents, and physicians.

The following is a short list of those most likely to benefit from CBT and Sleep Wellness.
The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Sleep Wellness therapy I offer can all be conducted via telehealth visits. When I am asked to diagnose or give a second opinion, at least one in-office visit is usually needed. However, when a referring physician has documented the physical findings and diagnosis well, the consultations can be conducted via telehealth.
You will be given a set of questionnaires that allow you to provide details about your health, your problems, and what you hope to gain from your consultation. During our meeting, I will describe what I understand as the issues, and you may correct any misunderstandings. I will ask questions to help clarify the issues. If a physical exam is needed, I will perform one. I will describe my understanding of the problems and what will be required for you to recover your health and sense of well-being or provide a second opinion of your current diagnosis.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) does not ordinarily involve medication. However, as a licensed physician, I have expertise in medication use. There are many situations when prescription medication is the most appropriate regimen for a rapid, less painful recovery. I also provide advice regarding more effective medication regimens than what has been tried. Some patients have chronic conditions that require extended medication use to provide relief; I will suggest judicious medication use. I do not prescribe narcotic medication for pain.
We ask that patients pay for services at the start of their treatment. We can offer you receipts and paperwork that describes the services that were performed with coding and the amount paid so that you may seek reimbursement from your insurance company for the services your plan covers.
Sleep Wellness begins with education about what sleep is REALLY and why it is so important. Read Dr. Washington’s Blogs to understand the vital role quality sleep plays in your well-being and how insufficient sleep is likely the root cause of your illness. It is never too early or too late to forego old habits and learn to adopt the attitudes and behaviors of a Super Sleeper!
